In addition to the development of the road network of LNG filling stations, the widespread use of liquefied natural gas in water transport may be of outstanding importance too. The use of this environment friendly fuel may give a new dimension to the competition between water and land cargo transport. Considering the current location of LNG terminals, the cost of water cargo transport is 15-20 percent higher in Hungary than in regions where the suitable LNG network is available. This causes a competitive disadvantage for Hungary against countries where there are more and larger capacity LNG terminals (e.g. the Netherlands, Belgium and the Scandinavian countries).
